It is pretty easy for us to tell people about the loopholes in their relationships and why it is an unhealthy relationship. But when it comes to us, it is not that easy. Have you ever asked yourself a simple question; Am I in a healthy relationship? You might have not because you also know that it is not an easy question to answer. And the reason is that one gets emotionally involved in a relationship that they don’t want to or not able to see the truth (this is blind love).

Sometimes it really becomes a necessary thing to separate your emotions from your thoughts about your relationship. And it is just because to check whether you are into a healthy relationship or not. If you really want to get an answer to your question, then you have to see at all the things which you find painful. It is really easy to know whether you are into a healthy relationship or not through the signs which we often miss out or ignore.

In one of the previous articles, I talked about what is a healthy relationship. I said that a relationship which helps you in enhancing your life is a healthy relationship. Here today in this article, I will be talking about the issues which people might experience in their relationship. And whatever I will be talking about here today will help you in considering the possibilities of your relationship whether it will work or end. YES! You will get an answer to your question, ‘Am I in a healthy relationship?’

Sometimes it becomes really difficult for us to find out that who is the right person for us or who is the right person for him or her. When this happens, we are usually psyched that we don’t even mind what’s happening around us. In the early stages of a relationship, it is pretty normal to see the world through those red-coloured love glasses. But for some people, those red-coloured love glasses turns into the knockouts which make them feel that they are not into a healthy relationship.

Am I in a Healthy Relationship?

If you and your partner are not treating each other well, then just take a step back and think about whether your relationship has these qualities or not.

It is pretty not good if you pretend that your relationship has a future if you have a collection of disagreements between you two. After being in a relationship for about 2 years, I came to know that his taste in movies and TV shows doesn’t really convince me. But, I am happy and satisfied because my relationship with my love taught me the things which helped us both in making our relationship long-lasting and working.


Those things are nothing to do with the movies or TV shows preferences, but we both learned about how to compromise and adjust with each other. If you want your relationship to be working, just read on further about what I have learned from my relationship.

Signs that you’re in a Healthy Relationship

Express yourself

Relationships flourish when people express their feelings honestly. This particularly means that you speak your mind and no topic is left to talk between the two. A relationship where both feel that they are heard is a healthy relationship. If you want to build a lasting life together, then it is really important to have a consistent communication with your partner.

Having Own Space

No matter what kind of a relationship you share with the other person. It doesn’t mean that if you are in love then you have to spend every moment with the person. You just have to pursue your friendships as well as interests in order to keep your relationship happy and fresh. It actually helps in growing as individuals while growing as couples.


It is normal to have disagreements in a relationship. But if you two aren’t fighting with each other that means you both are holding back. And if you two are into a healthy relationship, then you both will have a fair and productive fight. It means that you both will avoid any name-calling or put-downs. It also means that you won’t try scoring points instead will try understanding your partner. You even apologize for your mistakes rather than making the other feel guilty of the things which he/she never did.

Joint Decisions

No matter what kind of decisions you have to make in your life, you and your partner don’t call all the shots. You both try making decisions together and listen to each other’s desires and concerns.

You like your Partner and Yourself

Neither of you two is perfect, but it of you two value and accept each other the way you two are right now, then you are into a healthy relationship. So, whenever a question pops into your mind asking you, ‘Am I in a healthy relationship?’, then just think that whether you understand each other or just hope that the things will change with time.

Find Balance and Joy

Life is all about maintaining a balance in your relationship. If you are fairly giving your trade-offs, then yes, it does matter to your relationship. You just have to understand that you have to devote your time to other works as well while giving space to your spouse. If your relationship is full of fun and laughter, then you are into a healthy relationship. It particularly doesn’t mean that you need to drive up your partner all the time, but it means that you both together are happy in simple ways.

Treating with Kindness

In every relationship, love with appreciation, care, empathy and consideration is really important. Just treat your partner with more kindness, but it doesn’t mean that you should ignore the other people around. But if you get incline towards other people, then just revisit your priorities.

Trust Each Other and Let the things Go

A healthy relationship is built on commitment and trust without any secrets or reservations. You just need to build trust in your relationship by sharing all your secrets with each other. Obviously, you both will annoy each other at one or the other time. Sometimes even you both will say the words which you actually don’t mean and behave inconsiderably. The most important thing is how you actually deal with the situation. So, you just have to let go of the things.


One of the most important parts of every healthy relationship is Sex. But, sex is different from intimacy. Intimacy is all about familiarity, bonding, and friendship. If you are in a healthy relationship, then you will feel connected to each other every moment, in and out of bed.

Talk to Partner and say the Magic Words

When you have issues with your partner, despite talking to other people you talk to your partner. Just avoid having hard conversations with your partner. You just have to let go of the things and say those three magical words, I LOVE YOU!

Being into a healthy relationship is one of the major relationship goals of everyone’s life. But most of us agree to the fact that accomplishing a healthy relationship is not that easy as it is said to be. Most of the people think that the key components of a relationship are romance and sex, at least in the initial stages of a relationship. But it is not because I think that the best watchwords of a healthy relationship include empathy, caring, encouragement, kindness, and support.

If your relationship is giving you more pain than joy, then you are not into a healthy relationship and it’s time to leave. If you are into a relationship, then it is not easy to move on. But remember that you and your partner owe to self and each other while walking away from an unhealthy relationship.
